The Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunication is currently working on several major initiatives aimed at accelerating Pakistan's digital transformation, expanding connectivity and strengthening the country's technology sector.
In September 2026, Federal Minister for IT & Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja highlighted Pakistan's digital transformation at LEAP 2026 in Riyadh and inaugurated the Tech Destination Pakistan Pavilion, promoting Pakistan's technology sector internationally.
The ministry continues to advance Pakistan's national AI agenda. Current initiatives include the National Artificial Intelligence Advancement Initiative (NAAI) and plans for establishing National AI Hubs across Pakistan.
Pakistan's National Semiconductor Cluster Framework has reached an important milestone, with NED University joining the Semiconductor Engineering Research Consortium (SERC). The initiative aims to strengthen semiconductor education, research and industry capabilities in Pakistan.
The government is working to improve telecommunications infrastructure and expand fiberization across Pakistan. In July 2026, MoITT also reported significant improvement in Pakistan's ITU ICT Development Index, with the country's score increasing from 56.4 in 2025 to 67.7 in 2026.
